The beginning

I went to Hana feeling defeated
and left the trip changed, hopeful,
and ready for what was next.

In June 2025, at 41, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After my double mastectomy, reconstruction, and chemo, I escaped to Hana, Hawaii with my family.

For the first time in months, I wasn't a patient. I wasn't scheduling appointments. I wasn't a diagnosis. I was just there.

The trip didn't cure anything, it healed. It reminded me I was still myself. And it raised the question that became Alula: what if every cancer thriver could have this feeling?
